Step 2: Initial Design Consultation
The next step is to schedule an initial design consultation with our Principal Interior Designer, Angela Smith. This meeting typically lasts 75 minutes and can take place at your project address, in our studio, or online for your convenience.
For those seeking a one-off design consultation, this session provides expert guidance tailored to your specific questions, ideas, or challenges. You’ll gain clarity, actionable advice, and solutions you can implement with confidence.
If you’re embarking on a larger project, this consultation serves as an essential, in-depth discussion to establish the project brief and lay the groundwork for a beautifully designed space that aligns with your vision. During the consultation, we’ll:
Refine Your Vision: Discuss your goals, design style, and functional requirements.
Establish the Brief: Explore inspirations, potential layouts, and the scope of work in detail.
Plan the Project: Address key decisions, including materials, finishes, and timelines, and determine which professionals, such as builders or tradespeople, may be required.
Before the initial consultation, we’ll provide a briefing questionnaire and request relevant plans, photos, or inspiration to ensure our time together is as productive as possible. To secure your booking, we’ll issue an invoice for the consultation fee. Travel costs may apply for on-site visits, depending on your location.
For one-off design consultations, you’ll receive a detailed project summary within a week, outlining the design brief and proposed next steps. This valuable resource is designed to help you confidently manage your own project and bring your vision to life.
For full-service design and decorating projects, you’ll receive a project proposal, including the scope of works and consultation fee, setting the stage for the next phase of your design journey.
Step 3: Project Commencement
This marks the exciting start of bringing your ideas to life. Each project presents unique opportunities for creativity, guided by our four-stage design process:
Preliminary Design: ASI provides a mood board to convey the intended style and overall aesthetic of your project. This visual tool helps ensure your ideas align with your goals. After receiving your feedback, we develop a design scheme tailored to your space.
Detailed Design: During this phase, we collaborate closely with you and, if applicable, your builder or tradespeople to refine the key design and decorative elements outlined in your brief. For renovations or new builds, this may include reviewing floor layouts, spatial planning, kitchen and bathroom design, cabinetry, and lighting, as well as selecting materials and finishes such as flooring, tiles, tapware and countertops. Additionally, ASI can obtain quotes and prepare detailed schedules for your builder to keep the process running smoothly. If furniture and soft furnishings are part of your brief, we transition into sourcing and curating a selection of items tailored to your space, presenting these for your review and approval. For interior decorating projects, we focus on curating a cohesive selection of furniture, furnishings, fabrics, lighting, accessories, and decorative finishes. This includes sourcing both custom-designed pieces tailored to your unique needs and ready-made solutions. Every element is thoughtfully chosen to align with your vision and enhance your space. Whenever necessary, we coordinate with relevant professionals to ensure clear communication and seamless collaboration throughout the project.
Procurement: After product approval, we coordinate with suppliers, manufacturers, and workrooms to manage deliveries and installations. By working directly with trade suppliers, we offer access to unique products at competitive prices.
Project Realisation: Depending on the scope of works and your design brief, we oversee and coordinate key aspects of your project to ensure everything runs smoothly and stays aligned with your vision. While we are not licensed builders and cannot formally "project manage" construction works, our expertise lies in design facilitation—ensuring the creative aspects of your project are executed as intended.
We work closely with your chosen builder, contractors, and project manager to uphold the design intent and provide clarity on design-related queries during the construction process. Our role, if you choose to engage us in this capacity, may include coordinating trades for design-specific tasks, attending onsite meetings, and monitoring progress to ensure all elements align with the approved design brief.
Once construction is complete, we take care of the final furniture installation and styling of your home—bringing the design to life and creating a cohesive, beautiful result.
